In a significant milestone for the Sierra Leonean Writers Series (SLWS), for the first time in its history since its establishment in 2001 to publish and promote Sierra Leonean writers and their works, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has recommended two SLWS novels to be used in WAEC's public examination for junior secondary school pupils in Sierra Leone - the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from 2025.
ABOUT THE BOOK
"The New Disease" sets out to present the dilemma of a young man, Bondawaa, who wants to use western education to develop the young generation of his extended family into “a forest of giant tress.” Without developing himself into a giant tree first, Bondawaa finds his task herculean to accomplish. However, the spirit of his granddad, which is the driving force behind his dream, continues to remind him of this mammoth task again and again, especially when he senses that Bondawaa is being distracted.
