Professor of History at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone Joe A.D. Alie was born in Moyamba in the southern region of Sierra Leone. He is Professor of History at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, where he earlier recieved the Bachelor of Arts with Honours and Master of Arts degrees in Modern History. He earned his PhD and Certificate in African Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA. Professor Alie studied education at Milton Margai Teachers College Goderich, near Freetown. He has considerable teaching experience at home and abroad. An award-winning writer and educationist, the Sierra Leone Government awarded Professor Alie with the title of Commander of the Order of the Rokel (COR) in 2006 for his contribution to education in the country. Some of his published textbooks include: Sierra Leone Since Independence: History of a postcolonial state, An Outline Political History of Sierra Leone 1961-2007, West African History for WASSCE Candidates, A Guide to Writing College Papers in the Humanities and Social Sciences, Social Studies for Sierra Leone Basic Education Certificate Examination, and Sierra Leone New Junior Secondary Social Studies and Civics books 1, 2 and 3.
