The Sierra Leonean Writers Series (SLWS) has proudly solidified its status as a brand synonymous with quality local content book publishing in Sierra Leone. With its prestigious City Centre location on Lightfoot-Boston Street (opposite Ecobank HQ), graciously offered by Salia Jusu-Sheriff Foundation and Standard Stationery Co., SLWS is more committed than ever to making books by Sierra Leoneans readily accessible for students, educators, and readers across the nation.

Since its inception, SLWS has dedicated itself to empowering Sierra Leonean voices, publishing over 200 writers—98% of whom are Sierra Leonean. A small selection of other nationals has been featured as well, but only if their works contribute meaningfully to the Sierra Leonean narrative. This dedication underscores SLWS's mission as an academic and general publisher, focused solely on publishing works that reflect the country’s culture, history, and identity.

A Commitment to Accessible Knowledge for Sierra Leoneans

Through the philanthropic support of the Fatima Sankoh Foundation, SLWS is currently able to publish books free of charge, underscoring a passionate commitment to nurturing Sierra Leone’s literary talent. This unique model not only benefits authors but also provides a pathway for Sierra Leonean pupils, students, teachers, and academics to access books created by their compatriots. Now, Sierra Leoneans can proudly reach for books authored in their own country, available right around the corner.

Quality Assurance through Stringent Peer Review

SLWS upholds a rigorous peer-review process to ensure all publications meet high academic and literary standards. Each manuscript undergoes critical scrutiny by experts, and authors are required to incorporate feedback until the work is polished to perfection. This quality control process ensures that SLWS publications reflect the credibility and excellence Sierra Leone deserves.

Honoring Legacies and Building Partnerships

SLWS extends deep gratitude to the Salia Jusu-Sheriff Foundation and Standard Stationery Co. for their invaluable support, which has been instrumental in bringing Sierra Leonean literature to the fore. Dr. Salia Jusu-Sheriff, a dedicated advocate of ‘Made in Sierra Leone’ throughout his life, is honored through SLWS's commitment to quality and national pride.

In alignment with this vision, SLWS is also joining hands with the Sierra Leone Local Content Agency and other relevant authorities to explore the wider adoption of books by Sierra Leoneans throughout the country’s schools and institutions. SLWS believes that promoting Sierra Leonean literature will help deepen national identity and foster a culture of learning, appreciation, and pride in Sierra Leonean authorship.

Encouraging Sierra Leoneans to Rediscover Homegrown Literature

SLWS encourages the public to visit its new City Centre outlet to explore this unparalleled collection of local literature. As Sierra Leone continues to chart its path to educational excellence, SLWS stands as a beacon for literary talent, supporting and promoting Sierra Leonean voices that capture the essence of the nation.

Share this exciting news with friends, family, and colleagues. Let’s celebrate the richness of Sierra Leonean literature together.
