Dog, man’s best friend, posed a severe threat to their relationship over five thousand years ago. Man has to negate their responsibility to dogs resulting in the death of both man and dogs caused by rabies disease. Although a vaccine was produced nearly two centuries ago to prevent rabies, both friends continue to suffer due to negligence on the part of the man to care for his best friend’s dog. Several attempts to vaccinate dogs have not yielded the desired result, particularly in low-income countries. Partners responsible for animal and human health have in 2016 decided to eliminate canine rabies worldwide through continuous vaccination. Low-income countries will achieve this goal through responsible dog ownership and regular vaccination using the one health approach.
